District Profile

The Northmor Local School District was created in May of 1961 by merging the Johnsville and Iberia School districts. The Ohio Department of Education had been putting pressure on small rural school districts across the state to consolidate to best pool their limited resources. The consolidation of the two districts in the northern end of Morrow County only made sense. A contest to name the new district was publicized and on September 23, 1961, an interim board selected Faith Creswell’s entry, “Northmor” because it identified the location of the district in NORTHern MORrow County; hence NORTHMOR. Voters approved a bond issue in May of 1962 to build a new high school between the two districts. Johnsville and Iberia graduated their last senior classes in 1963 and became K-8 buildings. Northmor High School opened in the fall of 1963. A major renovation took place in 1989 which brought the junior high students to the high school from the elementary buildings. After graduating 47 years of students, the building was closed at end of the 2010-2011 school year.

The Northmor community approved a bond issue to construct a new Kindergarten through Grade 12 school building in March 2008. With the passage of the bond issue further consolidation occurred and the New K-12 building opened in September of 2011 and the first class to graduate from the new building was the Northmor High School Class of 2012.

The Northmor Local School District spans 101 square miles. The district serves more than 1,100 students in one PreK-12 building with three (3) schools: elementary, junior high school and high school. The district works to provide an individualized and personalized education to students through many different paths, including the traditional classroom setting, as well as on-line elective options for high school students. In addition to strong offerings of traditional, College Preparatory, and College Credit Plus classes for students, Northmor places a strong emphasis on the visual and performing arts.

Northmor High School is affiliated with Pioneer Career and Technology Center, which offers and array of vocational programs and Tech Prep courses of study. The athletic teams compete in the Knox Morrow Athletic League (KMAC).

The district promotes and supports high achievement with technology, a Gifted Program, and is a pioneer in the implementation of the The Leader in Me Program in Morrow County.  The district offers an outstanding 5-star rated Preschool Program that moved into the school facility beginning with the 2017-2018 school year.

Northmor students take immense pride in academic and extracurricular accomplishments. The dedicated support the of the PTO, Athletic Boosters, Music Boosters, and others from the school community truly improve the lives of our students.

There are many amenities within, and surrounding, the district including Candlewood Lake which entails a 1,500-acre private, gated, serene lake community delivering advantages of city living in a vacation-like atmosphere year around with something for all ages. The district is very rural and to some is considered a bedroom community to the city of Columbus yet provides a very comfortable place to be a permanent resident.
